Winter Solstice Prayer

Today is the longest night of the year, bringing winter with it. Winter is a time of dark and cold, but the dark is the darkness of the Great Mother, the Womb, the Holy Night. It is a time for closeness and comfort, for taking stock and celebrating our successes, for rest, and for dreams. Tomorrow the sun starts its return and we give thanks to the Light growing in our world and in our lives.

We give thanks for the challenges and lessons of the past year, for without them we could not grow.

We give thanks for the endings, the deaths, big and small, for without them we could not experience rebirth.

We give thanks for the fears we had to face, for without them we could not find our courage and Power.

Let us give thanks and blessings for this life we have been given. Let us be open to the blessings and the opportunities present in every moment. Let us invite Spirit into our lives, every day, every hour, every minute. Let us radiate Spirit’s Light and Love to our friends and family, to the Earth and all of nature, and back to Spirit.

Spirit, help us awaken. Let the Light grow in us and warm us as the sun grows and warms the Earth.

We are grateful and awed. We are blessed and honored. We are humbled and empowered.

Thank you, Great Mother-Father Spirit.
